Dim the lights
Soften the mood
In the darkness
You hear it?
Only your heart
The sound fills your ears
In the deafening silence
One after the other
Sustaining your being.

Dim the lights please
All of them
All you see is black
Black outside,
Black within?
A cold shiver.
Does it beat faster?
Your heart?
Do you feel it now?
Increasing tempo…
Each passing second
Waiting in anticipation
And again.
Is it really an option though?
Life is wonderful.
Will you give it up so easily?

Dim the lights
Better yet
Shut them off
Let the darkness seep in
Filling up every nook every corner
The hollow within you
Let it rejoice
Let it overflow with this darkness
Feeding on it.
Hold on though
Don’t loose yourself yet
Giving up is not an option.
See that ray?
That ray within you?
Keep it close.

Have you shut the lights?
Now stand alone.
Do nothing
Just feel,
Your heart
Your breath
Your life
Don’t you see?
You are important to us
You matter to us
You are worth a lot to us.
That heartbeat of yours is music to your parent’s ears
Those eyes of yours reflect the beauty within your soul
That radiant smile of yours lights up the day of strangers
The kind and caring personality of yours warms the hearts of many.
We’re talking about you.
My love
Are all that this world needs.
So feel that spark within you,
Let it crack through the darkness
Like lightening,
Let it spring out
Breaking through your shell.
Blind the world with your light,
Your energy
Let it only spread love and happiness
This world might become a better place.

In death

Oh how they moved together, gliding effortlessly across the dance floor.
He wore a silver grey suit with shining black shoes and a peacock blue tie that matched the dress of the woman he had in his arms.
It seemed as though they were floating.
Eyes lost in the other’s, just suspended in time.
It was quite the spectacle, really.
The beautiful couple brought a smile on the old lady’s face who sat nearby reminiscing her olden days.
It was, but, too perfect a picture to ruin.
Suddenly the cruiser gave a lurch and the next thing you know the cruseliner, was making a dangerously slow downward descent.
Everything was now distorted.
Mayhem broke out but the old lady didn’t even flinch.
Her eyes brimming with tears as she realised that this time there wasn’t anyone to save her. Not even a plank of wood.
She realised that soon her body would join her heart that had sunk to the depths of the ocean not long ago.
She realised that in death, lay her peace, her love, her soul…

Rhythm dominated his body

As he moved fluidly across the stage

The look of arrogance in his eyes

And then his true beauty burst out

He let the music run through him

His heart pumped in accordance to the beats

An overwhelming feeling wrapped around him

He could hear the blood rushing in his ears

Echoing around

Mixing with the melody

Letting go of everything

He built up his movements

Ready for the drop

His body tense

He leaped into the air

Landing in a crouch

Balanced in the position

A drop of sweat dripped down his forehead and onto the stage

He heard the applause

Resonating from the lone man that occupied the theatre

…it brought a smile to his face

He took a deep breath

And continued his routine

Emotions flared across his face

Love,sorrow, joy, pain

Slowly his feet started to move at a different pace

Disjoint to the music altogether,

Yet matching the melancholy emitted by the singer’s voice

And with the build of the cresendo,

Everything got faster

And in a flash,

It was over.

He took a crooked bow

The only amount to which his back relented to bend

The lone occupant stood up with tears in his eyes

And walked towards the dancer

‘You have been my inspiration today’

He said

The dancer was stunned for a moment

‘Passion can make one do miraculous things, father’

And with those words,

They departed together.

A far off observer saw the lights go off in the theatre

And two men emerged

One on crutches, walking with the help of the other

Both looked happy

Yet somehow their stance reflected sorrow

For them, the world would be completely different the next day

But presently

They had each other for support,

And that was all that mattered deep within…

The Light

For her

Life had always been tough

Responsibility rested on her tender shoulders

But that wasn’t a deterrent

It was her strength

That drove her on

She had a dream

And she worked towards it

Putting in hours of hard work

And ultimately achieved it

As time moved on

She fell in love

Soon had two beautiful children

The family was perfect

Like standing at the top of a mountain

But then came the fall

All she could hope was to survive

Survive for everything she was blessed with

It was not easy

Yet, she took up the challenge

And survived

It was her strength

That drove her on

As life moved on

So did she

Along with her family

She worked her way up the mountain

Each took different paths

Rocky, risky, frightening, dark

The glimpse of the summit was near

But it din’t feel like much of an achievement this time

More like a waterfall at the end of a river

While water currents pushed you over the edge

The ride wasn’t steady

And the fall was horrible

But they floated back up

She floated back up

And that was all that mattered to the family

She was their heartbeat

Their lifeline

It was her strength

That drove her on

And climbing onto their boat

They sailed through a surreal forest

Occasionally stumbling upon rainbows

Winds hit them hard

Once the sea emerged

The ride wasn’t steady

It rained one day

And the sun shined on the next

Everyone was trying to adjust

Hold up and be there for one another

The clouds soon grew dense

And they were now witnessing a storm

Hands on

She was at the centre of it

It was her strength

That gave others the strength

Inspiring and instilling admiration

Supported by her loved ones

They plunged into the rage of the sea

Anticipation gripped them

As they waited for everything to unfold

Looking ahead

They tried to find the light at the end of the tunnel…

The first rays of the sun illuminates the sky

Shades of red fill the vastness

The ocean reflecting the beauty

Slowly the colour changes

And in seconds everything seems different

Highlights of orange are all that’s left

Yellow dominating as the sun is first seen emerging at the horizon

The clear blue water now sparkling like embedded diamonds

A ship in the distance casts a shadow

A flock of early birds flying by

In a moment the scene again takes a turn

The artist splashing blue paint onto his canvas of creation

White blobs called clouds are then seen along with the spherical sun in the sky

The minimum amount of colour is added

And the masterpiece then left the way it is

For a whole day the artist contemplates about that single painting

Then by twilight another idea strikes

The canvas is once again worked upon

Paint flying hither tither

The azure now disappearing is being replaced with strokes of orange, pink, violet and indigo

The sun, a ball of red is hidden partially behind the clouds that are no longer white

Everything changes at a drastic rate

The flock of birds appearing a second time

But now at the other end of the canvas

The ship closer to the shore

And suddenly

Splayed on the canvas is black

And darkness is all there is left

The Cresent moon then takes the place of the sun reflecting it’s light

White dots the sky while the water reflects the constillations of stars

The painter finally satisfied hangs the canvas on the wall in the only spot devoid of any art

His last painting in place.

He stands in the centre of his masterpiece

The passion aflame in his eyes as he takes in the view

Every inch of the space covered with his art

While each canvas tells it’s own story

They could only be understood superficially when viewed individually

But together they summed up his life in a word

And that was spectacular
